TRATHO foundry produces Zamac alloys

With the technical know-how and quality of the leader in the foundry of non-ferrous metals, the TRATHO foundry, next to the headquarters in Arujá/SP, started producing Zamac alloys.

The Zamac or Zamak alloy (in German) contains aluminum, copper, magnesium and zinc, according to the percentage of these elements in the alloys produced at the TRATHO foundry (table in the image).

With the copper, zinc, tin and Galvalume® production lines stabilized and constantly evolving, the inclusion of complete production of Zamac alloys in the plant was the result of observing market opportunities. In this way, TRATHO expanded the list of non-ferrous metals produced in its foundry.

The entire project was designed to obtain a productive environment with high performance, control, without losses or deviations and ensuring minimum impact on the environment, always maintaining the required quality standard.

For the production of Zamac types 3, 5 and 8, the structure brings together melting furnaces, equipment, exhaust system and a completely modernized casting conveyor. The work routine maintains the concept of continuous improvement with increasingly automated processes, ensuring productivity and reduced costs. To be successful in this new challenge, the following points are highlighted:

– Self-sufficiency in the import of Zinc SHG, with guaranteed supply of the alloy’s main raw material.

– Strong market share in copper shot and billets, with production of copper anodes since 2015.

– Ease of importing primary aluminum, another alloying element, as the Galvalume® alloy is already produced.

– Adequate operations according to the needs of the electroplating market, that is, TRATHO understands the importance of a good substrate for a good surface finish. Synergic work is carried out to ensure that customers have a great experience.
